Am Air y Bywyd yn ein hiaith
Am hyfryd oleu'r dydd
Am yr Ysgrythur lân
Ar hanner nos yn glir y daeth
Arglwydd anfon o'r uchelder
Buost Arglwydd yn breswylfa
Cenwch delyn Seion seiniwch nefol gân
Cydnesawn O Geidwad mawr
Dewch at Iesu mae Ei alwad
Dos Efengyl o Galfaria
Dy law sydd arnom O ein Duw
Gogoniant byth i'r Iesu
Iesu ydyw Brenin
Iesu ydyw'r Bugail da
Mae angylion y plant
Mae Dy eisieu Iesu anwyl
Mae hyfryd lais Efengyl hedd
Mae llu yr Arglwydd yn crynhoi
Mae'r ffrwd a darddodd dan y groes
Mor hardd yw'r byd a wnaeth ein Duw
Nid ar deganau'r llawr
O blentyn, bydd eirwir er wyrthio i fai
O dan faner Iesu
O dewch (At Iesu ar ei lais gwrandewch)
Paid â'n gadael annwyl Iesu
Wrth deithio trwy yr anial cras
Wrth deithio tua'r nefol wlad
Wrth draed yr Athraw mawr
Y dydd gorphwysodd Duw
Y mae gorphwysfa eto'n ol
Ymddiried wnawn i'r Iesu mwyn
Yn dy ymyl Iesu mawr
Yr Arglwydd fendithiwn cydganwn ei glod

Penllyn was a Minister of the Independants. He was born in Ffridd Gymen near Bala, one of ten children. His brother Lewis Davies "Llew Tegid" (1851-1928) was an eisteddfod conductor and another brother Owen Cadwaladr emigrated to Patagonia. Penllyn was a leading eisteddfod poet in his day and he worshipped in the Old Chapel, Llanuwchllyn. He ministered for over forty years in Ebenezer Church, Old Colwyn and was one of the editors of Y Caniedydd Cynlleidfaol Newydd (The New Congregational Songster) 1921.

His hymns include those translated as follows:

For the Word of Life in our language
For the lovely light of day
For the holy Scripture
It came upon the midnight clear
Lord send from the height
Thou wast Lord a dwelling-place
Play ye the harps of Zion sound a heavenly song
Together we draw near O great Saviour
Come to Jesus his call is
Come Gospel from Calvary
Thy hand is upon us O our God
Glory forever to Jesus
Jesus is the King
Jesus is the good Shepherd
The children's angels are
I need Thee dear Jesus
The delightful voice of the Gospel of peace is
The host of the Lord is gathering
The flood that flowed under the cross
How beautiful is the world our God made
Not on the trinkets of earth
O children be truthful despite falling into a fault
Under the banner of Jesus
O come (To Jesus to his voice listen ye)
Do not leave us beloved Jesus
While travelling through the arid desert
While travelling towards the heavenly land
At the feet of the great Teacher
God rested on the day
A rest still remains
Trust let us do in dear Jesus
By thy side great Jesus
The Lord whom we bless let us chorus his praise

The hymntune Llangower is attributed to him
